Raag Soohee, Fifth Mehl, Third House:
(A melody that weaves spirituality with the poetic, by the fifth Guru in the tranquil Raag Soohee.)
One Universal Creator God manifesting Himself into His Creation. Realized By The Grace Of The True Guru.
(From the One, all emerges; realized through the enlightening grace of the Guru.)
Attachment to falsehood is an ocean of fire and pain. By Your Grace, O Sublime Lord, please save me from it. ||1||
(In the deceit of attachment, a fiery sea of sorrow; only Your mercy, O Divine, can ferry me across.)
I seek the Sanctuary of the Lotus Feet of the Lord. The Master of the meek, the Support of His devotees. ||1||Pause||
(To the lotus feet of the Divine, I surrender; O Guardian of the humble, in Your devotees’ hearts You reside.)
O Patron of the forlorn, Eradicator of fear of the devotees. In the Company of the Holy, the Messenger of Death cannot even touch them. ||2||
(Defender of the defenseless, banisher of devotees’ fears, in the sacred gathering, even death’s messenger dares not tread.)
O The Merciful, Incomparably Beautiful, Embodiment of Life. Uttering the Glorious Virtues of the Lord, the noose of the Messenger of Death is cut away. ||3||
(O Life Incarnate, Mercy Personified, of Unmatched Beauty, in singing Your virtues, death’s noose is severed.)
One who constantly chants the Ambrosial Nectar of the Name of the Lord with his tongue, is not touched or affected by Maya, the embodiment of illusion. ||4||
(Continuously chanting the Immortal Name, the tongue finds solace; untouched remains the soul by Maya’s deceptive embrace.)
Chant and meditate on God, the Lord of the Universe, and all of your companions shall be carried across, the five thieves will not even approach. ||5||
(Chant the name of Gobind, the cosmic sovereign, and ferry across with all your comrades; the five vices dare not near.)
One who meditates on the One God in thought, word, and deed – that humble being receives the fruits of all rewards. ||6||
(In mind, speech, and action, one who contemplates the One, attains the supreme fruit, the bounty of all joys.)
Showering His Mercy, God has made me His own; Only meditation on the Name of the Lord is tasteful. ||7||
(In His grace, God claimed me as His own; in His Name, I found the nectar of devotion, the only true taste.)
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, that is God. O Nanak, without Him, there is no other at all. ||8||1||2||
(From inception to conclusion, He is all that is; Nanak proclaims, without Him, none else exists.)
(This Shabad resonates with a profound spiritual truth: the Divine is the ultimate savior and companion. Through devotion and the repetition of God’s name, one transcends worldly illusions and fears, attaining a state of eternal grace and unity with the Infinite.)
